Details of Analyst Role

• Industry research: Analysts are expected to research and identify attractive industries based on SSC’s investment criteria. Analysts are then expected to develop investment theses and an understanding of business models for the selected industries, and assess these points together with the Partners. To start the process, Partners shall propose several industry verticals for analysts to explore and study. This is what you will do with the majority of your time. Unless you are highly inquisitive (i.e naturally curious and have appetite to understand and map different industries over the course of your assignment), then this program is not for you.
• Deal process: Analysts will handle production of emails/letters for targeted small to medium sized businesses, review of confidential information on potential acquisitions, and financial modelling for selected business opportunities. On the get go, analysts should expect to analyse and reach out to 50 – 100 target companies during the screening process. With this very hands-on approach, Analysts are expected to participate actively in phone calls with investment bankers, small to medium sized business owners, and other service providers. We place high value in the Candidate’s ability to work efficiently.
• Coordination and mentorship: Teams shall be coordinated virtually via an e-office. The fact that SSC is a boutique private equity firm has the advantage of involving each Analyst in every part of the transactions. This, at times, has the disadvantage of requiring each Analyst to be flexible throughout his/her internship. The Partners shall provide significant mentorship through weekly meetings to discuss progress of work and online sharing sessions, if applicable.
• Internship program: Unpaid internship with 10 – 20 work hours per week for 10 weeks. Coordination meetings shall be held virtually every Wednesday and Sunday.

Program management and coordination are done virtually via online platforms. This is a virtual internship program which involves a mix of virtual classroom sessions and hands-on learning experience with many of the core activities involved with running a boutique private equity firm.
An Analyst should expect to develop a fundamental knowledge of the process by which middle market companies are sought after, bought and sold. Analysts will also gain a working understanding of the industry participants involved in middle market transactions and the motivating factors driving their behaviour. Analyst should expect to spend the majority of their internship period proposing, proofing, and testing investment thesis, reaching out to potential targets, and interacting with external parties as part of the deal sourcing process.
