Established in 1888, ASB is one of Germany’s oldest and largest social welfare organisations. ASB, or the Workers’ Samaritan Federation, traces its roots to the Industrial Revolution of 19th Century Europe.
The original ASB team was six carpenters from Berlin. These individuals saw a clear humanitarian need and responded by providing first aid services to factory workers labouring under the harsh industrial conditions of the time.
Today, and over 120 years on, ASB provides a wide range of social, rescue and medical services in Germany (www.asb.de) through over 200 regional offices and a membership of over 1.1 million people.
